On Saturday, December 7th, from 1-2PM at G&G in Blairsville, there will be a social group for area teens and young adults with disabilities to hang out and have fun together. Adults will be on hand to facilitate/supervise as needed, and Haven Project will pick up the tab for food and drinks for the group. Parents or other family members are welcome too, but we are hoping to promote independence for the participants to as great an extent as possible.
On Saturday, December 14th from 2:30-4:30PM at St. Clare's Episcopal Church in Blairsville (downstairs in the parish hall), there will be a respite care event. The group will be decorating Christmas cookies and making holiday crafts. We will have special education professionals and other volunteers on hand to help, so if parents or other caregivers could benefit from an hour or two away, they can drop off their loved one(s), and Haven volunteers will help everyone enjoy some fun activities while parents or caregivers get some respite time. Everyone is welcome to join in, though, so if parents and caregivers would like to participate with their loved ones, they should feel free to stay. Please note: The leaders for this event have all been through youth protection training and are certified. We take everyone’s safety and comfort seriously.
To help Haven get a head count for planning purposes, please email havenprojectofga@gmail.com, leave a message on Haven Project of Georgia’s Facebook page, or call 706-897-8940. If you would like to drop a family member off for the respite care event, please let us know ahead of time what types of assistance your family member may need so that everyone can have as good a time as possible.
